For those of you who play GASLIGHT it looks like the compendium is scheduled for a march release:

Thanks, Malamute.

Hadn't seen the announcement on the Yahoo! group, and I'm sure Chris Palmer is tired of me asking.  :D

I'll buy it if it is easier to read and has some colour pictures!

Otherwise, I have all the GASLIGHT books anyway!  ;D

You tease Mamelute, I read on and it's ready for printing in March, ready for sale in July  :)

"Our goal is to have the book read for printing by the end of March so that the book will be read for sale by Historicon in July.  Stay tuned."

From the Blog:

"In addition there are new rules for Aeronef-style fleet actions, personal zeppelins, etc.  Finally, the book will include a few new scenarios."

More than enough reason for me to get one!

I forget where I read it, but my impression was the books were better integrated. Even without new material, which it does have, THAT'S reason enough for me to buy.

I haven't heard, though, of any major readjustments to the mechanics.

This is part of what Buck recently posted on the GASLIGHT Yahoogroup, in answer to a query. Apologies to those who are yahoogroup members and have already seen this. I thought it would give a full idea of what the book contains etc.

"There's been a spate of hard-cover rules books with lots of eye candy that (I think) are ho hum rules. In the case of the new GASLIGHT book, I think players will get a good set of rules, some new stuff, and some eye candy. The layout of the book will be almost like a Chinese menu, in that the different command and control mechanisms are together, the different firing mechanisms are together, etc. In developing the various supplements we worked very hard to ensure they were consistent with each other so that you could use the Battles activation system with basic GASLIGHT, for instance, or the normal GASLIGHT shooting with the Battles activation.

The cost discussion has been debated ad nauseum on TMP and other fora for years. My feeling is that if you pay $20 or $50 for eye candy that you play once or twice and then let sit on a shelf that's not good value. If you pay $20 or $50 for rules you play dozens of times over several years, that's good value. I think this compendium, which combines four of the older books with new rules (fleet actions, detailed rules for balloons and "personal zeppelins," additional scenarios, redesigned vehicle hit charts, redesigned record cards (for units, vehicles, air vehicles, and groups of main characters), a new alternative method of resolving morale with GASLIGHT games, etc., will be a good value for both new GASLIGHT players and old grognards alike."

The Compendium will not be just a collection of the old books.  We are combining those books, but they will be organized in a Chinese menu format as was described earlier.  In addition, we are including a bunch of new stuff, including rules for aeroneuf style fleet actions (as well as undersea actions), detailed rules for skirmishes between personal zeppelins, an alternative melee resolution procedure (which can be used in GASLIGHT, TBCBG, Battles, or A&E type games) that speeds play, redesigned record sheets and vehicle hit charts, etc.

The book looks to be something less than 200 pages, 8.5 inches by 11 inches, with lots of "eye candy."  The book will of course contain all the record sheets and charts, but those will also be available as .pdf downloads on the GASLIGHTrules yahoo group.

We don't know the price point yet.  The publisher is putting together some estimates.

More to follow...

Hey Buck, that sounds excellent. Good job!

Wish I waited to buy the other 3 books, which I got the other day! ::)
