MEGA-Fauna, Lulu The Land Waster...Picture Heavy
« on: February 08, 2011, 02:58:01 AM »
WARNING! The following is the product of an admittedly Strange Old Man with, at best, a tenuous hold on Reality...such as it is. Those of discerning taste are advised to go no further.

There now, if anyone is still with me, in the dim & distant past...well about five years ago, Friend John sent me a pair of plastic Rhinos that he had picked up from Michael's. From this less than promising start I came up with THE WONDROUSLY WEIRD mini I'm about to inflict on you...my dog converted the other one. There is some discussion as to which conversion turned out better; she seemed to enjoy the process somewhat more than moi...really got her teeth into it.

And now, without further delay, for your entertainment & edification, I present LULU THE LAND WASTER, SCOURGE OF THE OLD WORLD:

Your comments & critiques are MOST WELCOME...mostly.

I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

Intriguing.  The lipstick is a nice addition.

Hi DeafNala, your intro really made me laugh! I believe I have discerning taste and I went through to the end of your post and I loved it; its very original. It reminds me of the old (80s)  White Dwarf pics of Orc/goblins riding palanquins on elephants. I like the gobbo paint scheme (red/green), the wood , the bolt thrower, the base (I am going to stop because I have a long list).

Nice mini, glad you posted it

Great stuff!  I get the impression that Lulu tolerates the gobbos with a quiet resignation.

No pics of your dog's conversion work?
So many games, so little time.

Inspired!  That looks like something that'd be featured in a late eighties issue of White Dwarf and that, my friend, is a GOOD THING!

Thanks MUCHO for all the kind words...I always find positive commentary a motivating factor. Having my stuff compared to the 80s White Dwarf photos that feature such great pieces  as Michael Imings space ship "Mary Lou" is indeed quite a compliment.
I had meant to go back & tone down the lipstick, but everyone seemed to like it; SO...since it wasn't broke, I refrained from fixing it.
Most of my photos were taken by other Folks, which means sending the minis away for photography. My little furry buddy was too possessive of her treasure to have it sent anywhere. Photos of Lulu were taken be Edwin the Mordheimer; she's on semi-permanent loan to him. This is partially due to his philosophy that "if he can eat it; it's his". Here's a hoto of The Man putting his philosophy onto practice:

In the interest of saving the piece & his digestive system I figured I'd let him keep it. Pretty scary picture, eh?!

There is a certain... similarity between these two.  :D

Nice model, it really has the 80's feeling. And of course your model is proof that goblins aren't primitive creatures but rather intelligent Latin-lovers... so to speak - meaning of course they love Latin (schudder - I just had this weird picture before my eyes... best forget about it, where's the booze?)

Thanks, Doomhippie! I was hoping you'd stumble across this thread. I too am subject to these "visions". With moi it's probably a manifestation of my "better living through chemistry" misspent youth.
I'm definitely a Goblin Guy. As a long time solo gamer I tend to discard those background fluff ideas that I consider drivel...G.W.'s take on Orcs & Goblins is a prime example. I like to disassociate the two species...my new Goblins are reverting to a burnt orangish skin tone with a sand color pigment for the Night Goblins. I envision the Goblins of both types to be rather clever, just somewhat impeded by their intake of those interesting mushrooms.
I'll be posting the rest of this Mordheim War band in a bit, but here's an example of one of my scholarly UberGoblins:

This is Wastrel McWhack, Head honcho & Guiding Light of The Red Brotherhood.   :-*

Wow!!! Splendid stuff all around!

For years I've had a rhino staring at me on the shelf.. It was meant to become an ork squiggoth. But nothing happened. Maybe I should give it another go.

Now that guy is on steroids, nice model! I really like the scroll with the lantern and the fact that he looks like he is missing one of his front teeth.

Brilliant stuff - definitely puts Michael Immig's dinosaurs with palanquins to shame!  ;D

I like the idea of Ubergoblins spouting latin and never were truer words spake - In Fungo Veritas

I put "In mushrooms we trust" into a Latin translator online and got - fungi speramus in which also had a nice ring to it!

Unfortunately my GCSE latin only stretched as far as Metallis Gravis for my old rogue trader marines - even then I might have got it off an old GW transfer...  :D

Canis est in Via just didn't sound macho enough!

It's eyes and the wart on its nose reminds me of I girl I once knew.  Beautiful paint job and great details.  The wood grains came out nice.  Is that the base that came with the model or did you sculpt it?

Thanks again for all the kind words, Guys...you've made my day.

@Damien: the UberGoblins (count as Orcs for Mordheim) gain their size, strength, attitude, & often astounding stupidity from a variety of mushrooms that possess a high level of fungeroid. The mini has the arms & torso is from a plastic Orc, the legs are from a Goblin, the head is a Night Goblin, & some Milliput for the cowl.

@Thantsants: after suffering the untold misery that only several years of Latin can insure, I can only remember odd phrases. The "in fungo veritas" = "in fungus there is truth" (take off on "in vino veritas"  = "in wine there is truth") matches up with the banner insignia, "veritas liberatis"  = "the truth will set you free". The UberGoblin's back-banner, "cogito ergo sum" = "I think therefore I am" is a quote from Rene DesCartes...I knew Philosophy courses would bear fruit someday.

@Bloodysword: I imagine that Lulu has the same to moods as my Ex; i.e., crabby & stupid...sorry to hear about your former female friend...especially the wart.
For the wood, I just roughed up the grain with a course jewelers saw; did a dark brown base coat with a couple of dry brushes of the dark brown mixed with increasing amounts of desert sand. The base is a G.W. chariot base; I did the scenicing with plumber's epoxy (similar to Milliput), sand & static grass...it's not quite as garish in real life.

Delightful introduction and conversion! I echo the comments that this has the distinct 80s feel about them and I like your take on the 'shroom-indulging goblins 8)
