Perry zouaves
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:01:21 PM »
Woo-hoo! My pre-order of Perry zouaves arrived today.

The figurese are 'small 28mm', compatible with Foundry and the like. They are very nice sculpts too. You get 40 riflemen, one drummer and one officer. All troops have options for fez or turban.

These will be perfect conversion fodder for many projects. Watch this space for mine  ;)

I've just assembled a trial figure to paint up before I do complete unit(s). I've combined the zouave body with parts from another range of figures. Lets just say that my figures go barefoot and don't wear hats - come to think of it they don't even have human heads   :o

Colour me intrigued. :)

I really want some of these Zouaves but I have no idea of what to use them for.

I'm also thinking of doing a unit with the Westwind kepi + gasmask heads  ;)

Would Perry Kepis be any use ?
I think Alasdair has some in his bits box.

I'm hoping to use them with Ramshackles gasmask/turban heads.

I'm wondering if they would make passable Senegalise. I need some for my colonial French.

They would probably be a bit "over-dressed" for the Senegalese, but I'm sure it wouldn't matter. I'm tempted to get some to use as the Egyptian army's "Turkish" battalion in the Sudan. Same thing - too much uniformity and equipment (and wrong firearm), but they'll do for me  :)

And a bit, er, white. Gripping Beast do sell separate Senegalese heads in their Great War range, though.

Quite boringly, I will use them for their original purpose.  8)

I'm working on a largely Perry ACW army, so they're handy.  Could have done with more officers or a bugler, though.  Not many players field 40 man regiments.........  :-[
