Battles of Westeros
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:56:53 PM »
My current project has been to paint the armies from the Battles of Westeros board game released last year.  The miniatures are...sub par, at best.  Not great scuplts, and made of that soft flexible plastic.  However, I really like A Song of Ice and Fire, and felt that unpainted miniatures were not good enough for this game.

So far I've completed enough of the Stark forces for the first scenario. Working on Lannisters now, and painting in red is far more frustrating (for a novice like me).
I painted the figures more according to how I pictured them in my head, rather than the box art of the game (which used mostly brown for the Starks).

So here are 12 Northern poleaxe men, 12 Archers, 5 cavalry, Rickard Karstark and Maege Mormont.

(Sorry for the picture quality.  I'm an even bigger novice at photography than I am at painting.)

I find that the Vallejo Red (and yellow), once shaken well, covers a lot better than GWs which can be quite transparent.

They're not the greatest figures but I like what you've done with them!  I would also have to agree on the color scheme - I have yet to understand the desire everyone seems to have to make the Northmen "semi-civilized" barbarians; there are wildings in the series for a reason, so paint them in their heraldry!  I'm looking forward to trying the game when I go back home for spring break, have heard good things thus far.
