An older movie recommendation
« on: February 16, 2011, 08:55:12 PM »
A bit off topic but Lovecraftian in theme...

I have a taste for old horror movies and have watched or collected most decent horror movies from the silent era forward.  I particularly like black and white, pulp noir, hammer/amicus and so on...

Most of my movies I rent by mail using Netflix...

I've had this movie on the back burner for many years due to it's so so rating and feedback. However after watching it I discovered not only is it well made, engaging, and classy but is very similar to Lovecraft's "The Thing on the Doorstep" and despite being a 70's movie, has aged well and  doesn't seem to be very dated. It appears to have been based on a book which I intend to follow up on as well.  The same writer also did "The Norliss Tapes" the Kolchak the Nightstalker movie.

Anyway, tt is called "The Mephisto Waltz".  It also doesn't have a very predictable ending.  I don't want to give too much of the plot away.

If any others have seen it, I'm curious regarding your impression.
