Hail Caesar!/Black Powder game
« on: February 27, 2011, 07:58:57 PM »
There has been a lot of publicity for Warlord Games' new Ancient rules and several teasing releases. Here in GHQ we put together a rules set from what we found on the net and filled in the gaps with 'intelligent' guess work and reference to the Black Powder set.
Jon and I tried it out on Thursday and really enjoyed the game, it went to and fro for three hours before my Army's effectiveness finally collapsed under mounting losses. Phil and I will have a re-run on Wednesday evening all being well.
For the record, it was a late Roman Civil War, with the forces of the rightful Emperor, Pompus Maximus, opposing the usurper!

The forces arrayed at the start of the game.

My cavalry, who's attempt at a flanking manouvre lead to chaos...

Jon's infantry who simply refused to Flee!

Pompus Maximus' infantry, stout fellows one and all, but no 'killer dice' instinct!

Jon's cavalry deliver the decisive charge of the game, shattering Pompus Maximus' infantry... :'(

I'll post a few 'ingame' shots I hope after Wednesday's re-run.

Nice looking game.  After Bull Run to Gettysburg, the second most awaited rules of 2011...........  ::)

All in all it's a "late empire" game. I really like the minis and the table looks good!
