You are, of course, aware that you have set yourself up for some serious intellectual property litigation once the deity who devised that scorpion gets wind of this?

I guess this particular species has been around for quite some time, certainly longer than any copyright legislation, and should therefore be in the public domain

Anyway, here is a painted one:

As for the production model, would you prefer it in resin or in metal? The detail reproduction with resin is much better, but I am afraid the legs will turn out fairly fragile. I am considering doing the legs in metal, and tail, claws and body in resin. What do you think?

Yes, resin legs sound like a bit of a nightmare to me. I think doing the legs in metal is a good compromise. But I'm not an expert or anything.

Very impressive! The details are pretty amazing!

I fear that a lot of them would be crushed.

I agree metal legs seems a good compromise if the mini is intended for handling in games.

Maybe you could have the "full resin" option for those who only want it for display? :)

I live in the tropics. If there's a bizarre, horrific, insect you need, it's probably trying to climb in through the window right now. Let me know.

Small update: I have modified one set of claws, so there will be two versions of the scorpion:

I still need to make a few adjustments, but I guess I can start on the production molds tomorrow. The model will consist of a resin body, resin claws and tail, and metal legs, all adjustable with some sort of ball joint ("ball" at the end of the extremities, which can be inserted in the body and turned slightly for different poses). Depending on whether I cast the legs myself, or have them cast, the whole thing will be available by the end of next week (+- a few days...), or at the start of December.

White knight, a full resin version is not really feasible, the legs are just too fiddly. But then, they do not have that much detail, so a resin-metal hybrid is a good compromise, I guess.

Pnweerar, anything which would pass as 28 mm giant something would be most welcome 8)

 :D ( )

The retail price will be something between 10 and 20 EUR, can't tell yet. I need to weigh the molds and the completed model, and estimale the mold life. I suspect that with all those undercuts, it will degrade fairly quick.

You'll be the first to know when it is available.

For the size & the amount of detail, I'd call that a bargain :D

That is horrible in a brilliant way. Or brilliant in a horrible way, I can't decide.

Damn good either way. I'm afraid to say I won't be buying one though as it actually does scare me.

Here are some pictures of the first model from the production mold:

Belly detail:

I wish I hadn't painted it so blackish, and stayed away from the gloss varnish. It makes it look very life-like, but it was a major pain to get half-decent pictures...

I have a few issues with the metal legs. I hope to get them sorted out tomorrow, otherwise it will be released with resin legs first (the resin legs from the master mold proved not half as brittle as I had suspected), metal legs to follow later.

Depending on the leg problem, this one will be in the shop tomorrow or some time later this week. The other one with the closed claws is in the making and will be released some time later.

Cheers,

Jens
