Bertrand had a black eagle rather than a red one, and it had a red bar running from top left to bottom right.
The imperial red eagle was used by Jean II le Meingre. Marshall of France, nicknamed Boucicaut like his father before him.
There is another variant for his arms taken from a illustration dated c.1400, to which I added bar to represent his brother (see week 2). This had the right side as per the figure above, but the left had gold coins on a blue background. This is why I have elected to put the crossbowmen in yellow and blue livery rather than red and white.
