I think, Mancha, you are to be congratulated on a brave choice. Small furry rodents, however delightfully painted, are probably not calculated to appeal to a section of the macho gaming hardcore.

You think so? Originality seems to appeal to voters.

Probably also true.
My point really was that we've all seen Mancha turn out great-looking 28mm humans. More teams of great looking human miniatures would perhaps have been a safer bet than the risky 'armed medieval mice' strategy  ;)

But this is not to distract from the excellent entry from Fire Broadside! which I agree takes his 15mm Martian stuff to another level.

In short, both jolly good in very different ways. Exactly what we want really  :)

Now if only we had a both button... (Oh f*ck - now I've said it. Just off to shoot myself... )
 ;)

I'm inclined to agree. I don't want to take away anything from Mancha's lovely painting, but I think his choice of miniatures has a better chance than my choice of miniatures.  :)

Those were both really good entries.  Very hard to choose.

Wow, what a match-up. Absolutely love the execution on both entries.

I quite like Mancha's warrior mice. Reminds me of my middle school days when I enjoyed reading all of the Brian Jacques Redwall books. Tough choice, but nostalgia won me over.  :)

Well... I think it takes a lot of balls to pit 15mm against 28mm.

This LPL has seen, I do believe, more non-28mm entries than ever before.

And that is cool.

Good luck to both, really awesome, entries.

The martian bases are kind of bland. The helmets are nice,
but they don't trump the head to toe fantastic work on the mice.

That's the thing with doing armies for a Mars themed game; you're pretty limited when it comes to basing and terrain building. It's more or less about deciding what size rocks you want on your bases. I'm currently experimenting with having some larger black volcanic rocks (like these) as well to break it up a bit. We'll see how that pans out.

We play for a partially terraformed Mars. Opens all sorts of avenues.

I've been considering that, and I might try some small "deserty" grass patches or some such. But in my game Mars has only been colonized for a few decades as I'm trying to keep it fairly low-tech and realistic (with some exceptions. Hehe!). But it's a good idea! :)

Oh, and do you have any pictures of your minis?

The bases do seem to shout at you that "I'm too bright."  Perhaps a more in-depth dry brush highlight could give it more depth and perspective.

That's actually because of my lousy photography setup. I only have the one lamp and a crappy pocket camera that's five years old. I'm actually surprised that my pictures have come out as well as they have. Relatively speaking. I really need to make myself a light box...

In real life the bases are a more dynamic.  :)
