French Foreign Legion Officer (Suggestions)
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:22:34 PM »
I have the CiC set.

CIC004 FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION

Nice figures but they seem to lack an officer.   ::)  Anyone care to recommend a suitable figure from another range?  Obviously I'm looking for a near-perfect match in appearance, style and scale.

Askari Miniature's 1920's Foreign Legion minis have some officers that are similarly equipped to the Chaos is Cairo FFL.

The Great War Miniatures early French officers are very good, as is the kepi wearing Crusader early WWII officer.
They will not force us,
They will stop degrading us,
They will not control us,
We will be victorious!!

Isn't one of the legionaries in Artizan's TT series an officer?

Still, a chap ought to look smart in front of the men, don't you think?

Brigade, Renegade and Woodbine have good WW1 French officers that can be used

What to use depends on the year (and sizes of the minis).

If you want to make a unit  till the end of WW1 you may use anything from the Woodbine, GWM, Brigade and Renegade ones. (In fact I think that the new officer for the Senegalese, is very nice).

For midwar period (Pulp?) the best I can see is the askari chap in the middle of the pack FRP-1. The Artizan officer lacks a detail, the scarf, otherwise usually artizan has nice figures.  I remember some earlier photo here in LAF, maybe an earlier LPL round, had a nice unit made of Artizan and some other minis I cannot remember)

I think that usually renegade and redoubt are at the large size while wodbine and the rest usually are a little smaller.Since I do not have any FFL minis I cannot suggest anything in particular, but I think that CiC miniatures are more combatible with artizan (and maybe the rest, like woodbine etc ).

Thanks for all the input and advice.  Much appreciated.

Some great options there, but thinking that Artizan, being easily available and a good match size-wise, just bought this pack.

Taking note of argsilverson's observations including "the scarf" There are a couple of options in the pack.

Any good links or information on uniform colours for FFL troops stationed "in and around" Cairo between 1920-1930?

I'm assuming a light khaki for the main garments but not sure on cap colours, etc.  (Though these are all for Pulp so I'm not going to get too hung up on accuracy.)

No Foreign Legion stationed in and around Cairo, Orctrader, or anywhere else in Egypt for that matter (not a French colony, see). The nearest would be hundreds of miles away in Algeria or Syria between those dates.

But anyway, this is Pulp Adventures and you're not here for a history lesson, so here's what they looked like in the 20s:

And here's what those 1940s Artizan ones you posted look like in colour:

Excellent illustrations - thanks.   :)

Being only a painter and not really understanding the games, I did wonder why Chaos in Cairo had the FFL rather than British troops.   ::)  But then, as one figure has tentacles for a face, another the same for hands and one is the "Husk" I assumed it was a kind of Pulp meets Horror meets Alternative History   ;D

They should be fun to paint though.   :)

Those illustrations are great been scouring the wrb for FFL images but have turned up very little of any use. Just bought me some Artizan ones but now I'm not so sure they're what I'm after...
