Just not cricket... pavilion
« on: April 06, 2011, 09:49:40 PM »
I'm currently working on a cricket pavilion, I've built the bulk of it and then set it aside to concentrate on my VBCW piece for Salute. In the time it's been sitting around the removable roof has warped.

As you can see it looks really ugly now, so does anyone have a bright idea to remedy this?

If I can't find a quick solution I'll rip out the old ceiling and use something thicker and less warpable, but that will be a long job, so... HELP!

You might try putting the roof in a humidfied area and putting some weight on top of it to flatten it back out.
Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

The boards have obviously warped with all the adhesive. If wetting it and drying it under weight in the sun doesn't work, I'd just do some subtle shaving of the ceiling or additions to the planking on the outside. I've seen plenty of wonky weatherboards before and this just might give it a bit of an aged effect. Once painted I doubt whether you'll really notice it that much.

Nice project by the way

Assuming it is lined with carboard what I'd probably do is try and fix it with runny superglue.

This is something that has to be done with plenty of ventilation and much care as there will be a lot of fumes and heat generated.

First I'd cover a piece of flat board with brown parcel tape (as superglue won't stick to it) then secure the roof using masking tape, compressing it flat and square afer cutting any difficult joins.  The roof would need to be laid out upside down, as it's the inner cardboard that needs access to for fixing into its new position.

The next ingredient is runny superglue available from some hardware stores and poundshops.  I use Maxifit which costs me 95p for 20g.  I'd then pour the superglue over the inner cardboard, taking care not to flood it.

Sounds like a lost of fuss and bother and has the potential to go horribly wrong but it's how I fix cardboard.
