Chris Palmer - he of GASLIGHT fame - has done a tutorial on making these using cheap birdboxes:

I don't like them, they look silly.

So Speaketh Dewbakuk, Prime of Parrotmen

(of course the fact that I never finished my village means it's still better than mine)
So many projects..... so little time.......

I'm a big fan of Chris normally, but these did leave me a bit flat.

However, I've been chastened by seeing in person more than once, and I have hopes of that next month.

The point was the idea, not whether the execution was to peoples' taste. I reckon it's a good bit of lateral thinking and using similar methods and materials might produce LAF-standard terrain  ;)

I'm loving the idea of seeing lots of little nest-like huts perched in Cytherian trees.......

I'm thinking coconuts would be amazing with some sort of similar treatment.

My wife hangs out coconut halved filled with suet based 'bird treats' in our garden. Must save the empty shells .... Yet another project  ::)

Point taken  :) but the comments were pertinent.

Else, why not fishtanks for fishmen?  ;D

I build scenery. So I know how frustrating it gets when you have an image in mind but you can't find the raw material. So when I see that someone has found a suitable product it helps with the old Grey matter up stairs. The idea is a great one. I just might have to take it and run with it.

For my Kroot/Parrotmen, I use the old 1/72 Scale Airfix Jungle Outpost Huts. You've got an elevated log platform with a wicker hut on it. I add 3-4 horizontal rows of plastic dowels/tubes as Bamboo logs to the base of the actual hut structure to give it a bit more height. Looks good and has more of a jungle nest feel to it.
