African tribesmen?
« on: October 18, 2007, 11:47:18 AM »
What is the best 28 mm source for those jungle tribes?

I know the Foundry Darkest Africa range, but they are more like 25 mm, if I understand correctly?

I think I saw some 'fantasy'-tribes/'lost' tribes somewhere (some with immense masks, very pulpy), but I cannot recall whére...
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

moved the topic to Colonial board.

Foundry and Copplestone are the best. They are really 28mm

the masks you saw are from Old Glory for sure:

Prof has it correct. They are not 25mm. Some of the later Darkest Africa stuff from Copplestone is quite big in fact. Bigger than 28mm really.

Thanks.

I think you're right, Prof. The Old Glory are those I was remembering. Are they true 25 mm btw, anyone?

Some of the OG are very good indeed, but you still sometimes get the dreaded bizarre pose. Easily rectified with a razor saw & some green stuff though [I even have all my fingers intact after performing the operation!].

They mix in well with Foundry etc and any size differences aren't apparent. They are also, of course, very cheap, so large numbers can be had on a tight budget  :)

I have also used BTD's Zulus - now they are quite big compared to Foundry, but IMO not excessively so & they also do some good low-priced deals.

Hope that's of use,

Ian

With the Copplestones' size always remember that some of the east african tribes have really huge guys.

I don't think size is a real problem with irregulars, quite the opposite. Size is mostly a problem if it comes to industrially produced weapons. A good example are Copplestone BARs compared to Pulp Figures BARs - nearly 1cm between them, they look like two different weapons!

And of course it looks silly if Ghurkas can spit on the heads of Watussi Warriors.

Very good, my good men. Splendid, indeed!  :)

I just ordered a Schleich baobab at the local toy store today, and I'm expecting a heavy payload of cake decoration palm trees and other plants for my Pulp/Darkest Africa/South American/Asian.... whatever... jungles.

When they arrive and I have based enough for a 2'x2' table, it's time to begin planning some native encounters for my - hopefully unsuspecting - players....
