Quick Tutorial Request
« on: October 21, 2007, 11:29:58 PM »
Hello Everyone,

Can someone please post a quick tutorial on making terrain with aquarium plants?  What is the best base material to use and how do you fasten the plastic plants onto the base?

Seeing all the terrific terrain pics has inspired me but I could use some guidence by the pros here.   :)

Thanks in advance!

Don

I've used 3mm MDF & fixed them on with a hot-glue gun. I'm certainly no expert, but it seems to work OK so far....

Almost the same method - Drilled suitable hole in 3mm MDF but used a 2-part epoxy resin to glue the plastic plants into the holes. Takes longer to cure than the hot glue gun but no chance of melt down.

When I was basing some palm trees that i got from Baker Company I pushed a drawing pin into the base of the trunk and then used a hot glue gun to bond them to a base. Trouble was that the drawing pins had plastic covers on them and the plasic cover melted as soon as it felt the heat.

I have nothing to add (so why do I bother answering? is it the bottle in front of me?).. Hot Glue gun, thin MDF, water based filler, PVA, sand. Add foam card and insulation foam and you'll end up with 90% of what I use for terrain...
