I ran this game as a playtest of some ideas for
.45 Adventure, which I will be refining before making the scenario available for download. There were three people playing (which included me running the Terracotta Zombies, the Jade Mummy, and the Ji?ngsh? or Hopping Corpse.)
I’ll detail all the events of the game on the web page when I get it up this weekend, but I wanted to share three images and some thoughts.
The two other players both brought their own teams, one of cultists (using the Bandit archetypes from
Dragon Bones) and the other, three brothers who were Big Game Hunters and adventurers (using the Professor and Asst. Professor from
Dragon Bones and a Police Sgt from the main rulebook).
The Terracotta Zombies were based on the Nazi Zombie archetype from
Amazing War Stories, with the exception that a Head or Torso shot would kill (shatter) them. The Hopping Corpse and Jade Mummy were new creations. The Mummy did not come into play as we ran out of time. The Hopping Corpse did and I tried to base it closely to the actual Chinese myth and not the traditional vampire.
The one thing I wanted to really experiment with was a different way of dealing with Encounter Markers. As each player found a marker, they made a Brains test. Each of the markers was a clue that needed to be translated. If they passed, they received the correct translation, if they failed, they received a translation that may or may not be correct (or it may just be missing some key points.)
If they had gotten the three necessary translations correct, they could have approached the tomb without activating the Terracotta Zombies. If they did anything incorrect, than all sorts of things could have happened. It worked well with a lot of confused looks when the partial translations were given.
Anyway, here are the pictures.
Here are the Steps leading to the resting place of the Ruling Sword
Here is the End of the Game where the Cultists have lured all the Terracotta Warriors and the Hopping Corpse toward the three brothers (there is one of the cultists skulking in the background.)
This cuddly critter never made it into the game either. This was my Yaoguai or Demon Panda.
