A real stunner of a paint job Prof, on a corker of a miniature. :-* :-* :-* I'm glad you get to work on this project a little more.

Cheers
Matt.

Thanks for the very kind comments, chaps, much appreciate it!

The duchess you made is excellent, though I would think of here as a hybrid between this figure and the smoking lady by Copplestone!

Yes, of course, that's sort of a mix there, though it's maybe up to my painting of her. I had both in mind, the Duchess Semenova and the other lady from the Siberia Corto Maltese book, namely the Shanghai Li (btw she may have been the model for Copplestone's smoking one):

that picture below is a courtesy of cortomaltese.com, check the link below for more Corto Maltese female characters:

If you have a look at Bob's painting so you can see that the duchess, in his case countess, looks more our a russian noble lady getting some blond hair

Yes, Shanghai Li could be Copplestone's lady (she has oriental face characteristics, too).
But I believe that a better one would be the Bob Murches chinese lady holding the fan from the new pack PYG07

just to keep her in her original origin.

Oh yes, this new one is so lovely  :-* she's on my to-buy list already!

After all that talking about other Copplestone miniature I've decided to make some shots of these two lovely females. So here comes Shanghai Li! I've painted her about 10 years ago. I'm still quite pleased with her though I wouldn't mind to have the same miniature painted in brown tones for my collection. Maybe one day.

And a more dramatic shot, just for fun, including a smoking White Russian General and an advisor with a very cool hook arm, both Copplestone, both older paint jobs.

Perfect rendition of that miniature. Makes me want to redo mine!!!!

What exactly is Back of Beyond. Is there a central fiction delineating it?

Basically it's about "struggle for mastery of Central Asia that followed the Russian Revolution", so about 1919-1926/28. It includes Rusian civil War, the famous "Great Game" between Russia and Britain, the Mongolian campaign of Ungern-Sternberg, Wars in China, Tibetan frontier and so on. Lots of things meanwhile.

Cheers, chaps, appreciate your kind comments  :)

Roman Nikolai Maximilian von Ungern-Sternberg, also known as Mad Baron. To be honest I've never been a big fan of this Copplestone's interpretation of the baron. I would prefer a more uniformed version and one day I will be converting one for sure. Though for the moment this one should be enough for my progress.

This time I've decided to use less bright colors (see my other version -> here). I think I like it a bit more now.

I've also created a conversion of a Chinese mercenary, kind of a would-be bounty hunter. His name is Jet Fang and he will be a part of the coming Chinese bandits gang. I know he won't be the fastest guy in the gang but you know, the ox is slow but the earth is patient :)

Some wonderful figures are going in this project, Alex, with paintwork to match.
 :-* :-*

I love all the little scenes that you are composing, I may have to steal that idea when I get going on mine.
 ;)

Oh, and that mercenary conversion is inspired!
(I think I shall steal that idea too!)

I liked the bright Baron, but the muted one is excellent also. The photos are great. :)

I also like the bandit conversion, can't wait to see that painted.
