While PlayMobil and MegaBlocs are oft mentioned for their ships, they also make row boats, the question being are they any good? Can one convert them into anything vaguely decent or serviceable? If not as row boats then as small vessels...

My gaming partner and I have a number of the ships that were put out by Mega Blocks. We have done numerous conversions on them and have made very nice gaming pieces out of them. We have also made conversions on the row boats and made them just as nice. So yes you could use the little row boats. They adapted very nicely to 28 mm gaming use.

Greetings.
I have constructed quite a few rowboats using the Gary Chalk system (for Pirate Ships) that are very suitable for gaming use.  I use a saw to cut multiple pieces at a time and then assemble and paint them in an assembly line process.  I like to do this so the rowboats are customized to the size I need and have the features I would like such as bench seats, mounting for swivel guns, mast holes, rudders, etc.

I have also made rubber molds of other rowboats I have made and cast quite a few in resin.  I use Alumilite resin.  They have a web site you can visit that includes directions to make molds and castings.  That resin and moldmaking material is sold through Hobby Lobby stores in the U.S.

Please email me if I can provide further information.

Very small but I have a very nice one that I think was Mithril, may be OOP now though?

Mithril did one as part of their Laketown range iirc, complete with rowers.

A possible source is model ship accessories like (e.g.) Amati: lots of boats in different shapes and sizes, some pre-made, some in kit form. Plus side is they are nice scale models, downside is that they therefore have proper full hulls and sloped sides making use for gaming more difficult. Just an idea...

I have a couple of the Games of War ones, which are fantastic (other than the resin being thin on the bottom of two of them; there are some very tiny holes).  I'll post up some pictures with some Black Scorpion minis.  They're about perfect and thankfully don't have benches - allowing you to use all of the room.  At 5-6" long they also allow several minis'.

foxhole terrain have a few in their current product line. I have the 4 gun and canoe, and think they are nice, though I haven't any other boats to compare. They are certainly affordable, and they will probably expand the line if they get some signs of interest.

This is the two Games of War models.  They are great, and perfectly scaled.  Nice detail, and they drybrush up nicely as seen below.

(PS: You'll see one of them has a small hole in the middle of the ship, so you could put up a tiny single-mast if you felt the desire)
