Catachan Platoon Command Squad (final pictures on Pg. 8)
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:38:04 AM »
Right this is my 40k squad for UK GD

All the models are built and ready for painting.

I am going through everyone painting the skin so I will post pictures of each squad member as I go rather than bore the socks off you with unpainted models.

So far I have done the skin on the Platoon Commander who I am thinking of naming Captain Willard

I wanted to go with faded tattoos on these lads so I did the tattoo sort of halfway through the skin process and then glazed over it.

Lovely work so far  :-* :-*
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Looking very good, the skin tone is spot on. Can I enquire, I always paint the face and skin last as I find it's the area less resiliant to accidental over painting when I'm painting the rest of the model. Does painting in the face and other areas first make painting up the rest of the model harder?

Personal preferance mate.  I am a very neat painter and it doesn't matter which way around I do it really, I have always done skin first then clothes, and I am a creature of habit.

Done the skin on two more

Dont forget:

There are at least FOUR very different styles and colours of Tiger. Some 'in country' made sets early in the war were very diferent to later ones made in the states.

Check out and google "golden" tiger etc etc ... or buy the big boys book of Tiger patterns

Further progress

Little pointless this picture of the commissar as he is sort of covered by his hat....

But to make up for it have a few decent ones of the medic

Last up the sniper who will be in full camo cream and eventually a ghillie suit.

Love the texture on the beret! I can almost feel the wool making my head all hot and itchy  lol

Shouldn't Capt Willard be wearing a dark green beret though?

"He specialises in bustin' my balls"  lol

I'm not a 40K fan, but I love the way you're painting these figures.

Lets hope so pal.  Paints I use are Vallejo Game, Model and Air and Reaper Master Series

Right now someone on another forum made a point that they were too clean for Catachans......I sat and though about it and I totally agree so I threw them all in the bin

Yeah right and I clean windows with my tounge......I did however agree with him and felt they needed some battle damage/environmental damage, after all sneaking through jungle wouldn't make for lovely moisturised skin now would it.  I also added some stubble for that omg I need a shave moment I know all too well.  Some of the battle damage is a lot more subtle than other bits and you need to look a lot closer and I hope that will work in my favour come judgement day.

Radio guy has to be my favorite with his bloody knuckles think that says a lot about close combat, I have a mental image of him on the radio, suddenly being attacked by an enemy shortly followed by a right royal pasting with his fists because the knife option would be too boring.........
