Played another game of Early War yesterday, having a blast. My buddy Widgren brought his mechanized Germans to face my Polish infantry battalion for the first time. The scenario was Hold the Line, Polish army defending.
This proved to be a bit of a concern as I had to deploy half my army on table and keep half in reserve. As all defending units started dug in and gone to ground I decided it would be best to deploy the artillery and machinegun platoons for a delay action and hope for the infantry to come in from reserve, unmolested, and shield the objectives.
The battle provided us with a few cinematic events, like having 2 German scout vehicles fire at the Polish tankette platoon and fail to inflict any damage - only to be bested by a single German Rifle team which hit a tankette and blew it up by rolling 6 on the firepower test!
The Polish C.O. and 2iC, leading each of the HMG platoons fought to delay the approaching Germans and only left their positions as the platoons they were fighting with were wiped out - only to join up with the reinforcements coming up from the rear.
Stuka's harassed the Polish lines and scored a dream kill early on, and just like in the old west movies everyone was waiting for the cavalry to arrive and save the day.
The battle was an intense grind, and proved to be the most intense FoW battle I've experienced so far with a lot of lat minute balls to the walls decisions that would either win or lose the battle.
My buddy Thomas, "Widgren", also provided us with some pretty sweet looking terrain. Our upcoming September campaign will look so damn good.
Check the battle report on my blog (extremely picture heavy):
