New Victorian Horror Blog
« on: 20 June 2011, 05:15:16 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member (sort of - I made 2 posts four years ago) whose been lurking here since forever. Thought some of you would like to know I've just started a new blog, to detail my new project - Victorian Horror. I'll be posting my ideas and progress on there, as well as discussing my attempts at creating my own set of rules. There will be pictures too, yay!
Cheers.

Here's a pic to whet your appetite;

Just realised i didn't put the link in!

Interesting stuff.  I'm curious to see how your rules turn out.   I'm personally using F&F, but with structured scenarios using pre-selected forces and some serious modifications.  I've actually play-tested a few scenarios over the last three days with great success and am in the process of writing them up.  I'll post links to them in PDF in the future.

Points for being different and not shying from a different world setting than many would naturally gravitate towards!

Gracias,

That's the beauty of fictional, rather than historical gaming - you can have any setting you want. I always think it's more fun coming up with your own.

FF - I'd like to read that. Might get some ideas from you.

Just in the process of adding some more stuff on the blog.

Thanks. I've got loads of stuff yet to paint. I'm looking forward to painting the Sidhe as I have an eclectic mix of figures for that. Looks like the weather is turning into painting weather too.

What are you using for your Sidhe-group?

I have a small one right now, led by Prince Nuada, with an Bodyguard, an Sharpshooter/Assassin and some Vættir.

I was going to post an image but I can't remember how to do it!

So far I have a Ral Partha mage as the Sidhe Lord, GW Banshee, Westwind Vampire children as Changelings, Copplestone Yeti as a Troll, GW Minotaur as a Faun (giant killing machines in my game- not effeminate at all), Ral Partha monster as a Bodach, Four A demon as a Bucca, various Nurglings and other weird tiny minis as faerie swarms. That's it so far. Looking to add dryad types (using GW plastic Dryads) and some kind of spectral hound (possibly GW Chaos hounds).

A brutal close combat oriented faction, backed up by Magick. They're vulnerable to iron however, and obviously most humans are armed with weapons made with iron.

What a great idea using a Sidhe faction!

You've assembled a great collection of miniatures to represent them.

I can't wait to see more of this project.  :-*

The Sidhe 'gang' is a very cool idea, especially given the eclectic miniatures you've chosen for it.  Placing it in a late Victorian British setting they could maybe be related to the Fenian movement (perhaps under the control of an old Irish witch) and are trying to bring down the British government.  Then again they might just be angry with the transformation of the British landscape by industrial expansion and are seeking to exact some revenge for this loss of habitat!

Great stuff – love the idea of the Sidhe.  :)

Do you have a copy of TSR's old Amazing Engine book For Faerie, Queen & Country? Lots of ideas in there.

I like those figs but I don't recognise them, what are they? The Vaettir are interesting - fast moving & airborne, could be used to take out snipers and such.
I have a few Rackham figs which I may use as Sidhe warriors, the delicate sculpting style makes them look lithe.

FF-interesting idea regarding the fenians. To be honest it didn't even cross my mind for the Sidhe to have political aims, I was thinking more along the lines of them being angry at humanity for causing their exile, and poisoning the land. Also, the names I've used for the creatures are a mix of old English and Scots Gaelic (I've just remembered the name of the spectral hound - Barguist, which is Scots Gaelic).

Ox-No I don't, but I do have pdfs of several of the White wolf Faery games, which I'll have to have a read through.

Also, I meant Satyr not Faun. Here he is;

The Prince is basically the "Helldorado Lancer" fronm the saracen-faction, with a head-swap and the lance reworked.

Bodyguard and Sniper are "McVey" minis, Y'Sidyra and Ar-Fiach

Vættir are from "Tor Gaming"

I'm also using some of the Brittanians from that range as henchmen for one of my Evil-Geniuses, the Mad Puppeteer ;)
