50 tyres for €4,50
« on: June 23, 2011, 12:49:16 PM »
Whilst scavenging the toys isle in some store I found a pack with plastic covering and 50 tyres for 1/32nd agricultural toys.
They're a bit large, but I think they can pass as truck tyres.
Only drawback could be the material. Rubber so I don't know if they'll hold paint that well :

for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Nice find! I've never seen tyres sold separately before 8)

Edit: regarding painting, whenever I had a toy car with rubber tyres I tried not to undercoat these, sometimes they become eternally sticky. I used them as is with a wash of Vallejo Games Color Earth, it does the trick. It'll be a bit of a chore to remove the mould lines though.

You could always undercoat with gesso as it keeps its elasticity. Very nice find!

I'll keep that in mind.  :)

That's very cool.

I wonder if, instead of painting, just leave the original rubber, and add some weathering pigments to simulate wear.

They'll be perfect for stacks o' tires.

May I recommend Liquitex Black Gesso? Better for the tires than a white gesso and it's really good as a product. Even undiluted it shrinks down quite well and preserves detail.

I have recently seen some here : http://www.bemomodels.com/nl/parts-1-50/menu/banden-en-velgen-diversen-322 but found them to be rather pricey.
As I give everything 2 coats of varnish (gloss for strength and matt for presentation) I haven't got a clue what would happen with that when handling the objects.  ???
P.S. not all tyres suffer from flash  :)

I have some MiG pigments european dust I could use, but again how will everything hold up once sealed.  ???

By all means, but, problem is a already got a pot of the white stuff which will probably last for a lifetime and since I inted to airbrush whatever I'll be creating with 'em with enough coats of black, I don't think that would be an issue.

Well, I've got enough tyres to test all methods and even then, I guess whatever I put on them will come off fairly easy if I need it to.

I am experimenting with pigment at the moment and they cannot always be varnished, sadly. From what I gather from internet sources... MIG fixer is the way to go.

Since youre from Gent, I found the  same 50 tyres-offer (4 euro) in a toy megastore on the N19 (Antwerpse Steenweg - Geel, a couple of hundred yards past McD), similar to a Drealand store but with another name.  I bought a few packs and looked for them in the Dreamland store in Oostakker, but no luck.  They were in the agricultural toys section (toy tractors etc).

I found these at Suprabazaar (N9 - Lovendegem). They still had seseral packs.
Here I also found the Cararama Caravan (with SUV) which I've been looking for quite some time now.  :D

Digimortal sorted that out already :

Found this googling http://www.scalefarm.com/_model-kids_kids_globe_farming_toys.htm
The battery operated wind turbine has some uses as well I reckon

Ah, yes, I stood in doubt over that one. Should have brought one along although they're more suited for 6 and 15mil than for 28.

the Tyres wheigh just under 100 grams.
add to that the enveloppe (+/- 50g)  and they're in the 100 to 350 grams range which would cost €7,20 to ship international.
