What in the blue blazes is this?
« on: June 26, 2011, 11:25:34 PM »
Well okay I know it's a cannon, but it's a right old one. It's got a very high lead content, is at least forty years old likely more. It bears a "Made in England" mark (Hurrah!) and is a spring firing beauty with a range of over six foot. It's around three inches long and one high.

Here's a few photos of it;

I'd really like to know who made it, and how rare it might be, especially in it's unpainted state.

Blimey that looks old, in fact it looks awfully similar to those ones pictured in H.G Wells Small Wars (or is it little wars? I can't remember) rule set.

And Six foot? God damn, my spring cannons could only fire over 3 at max! That thing would be the death of the cheap plastic platoon back in those days.

Well if what's I've picked up is true the range is no surprise... it was apparently made in Birmingham by Alfred Field & Co in Edmund Street... which I assume is Hockley way. Tying down a date will be harder though... unless you know otherwise.  :)
