Gurkha Question
« on: July 06, 2011, 10:18:16 PM »
As my topic says, I have a Gurkha question.  I was wondering what the officer's uniform looks like? I have wargames foundry figures and an officer in puttes and pith helmet. I am painting the Gurkhas in their green uniform and was wondering if the officer would have a green unform or a khaki one? For some reason google is working against me on this one. Any help would be great.

The officers would be in the same form of dress as the other ranks, so if you're doing the Ghurkas in green then the officers should be the same.

This bears true for all British units. Officers should always be in the same or a higher level of dress than their men. For example, when I was in the army we did guard duty on a regular basis. We would wear combat dress, but the day's Orderly Officer would inspect us in his No 2 Dress uniform.

One has to keep up appearances, old chap  ;)

Hi,

check out this image:

http://www.artfinder.com/work/the-3rd-gurkhas-skirmishing-the-anglo-indian-army-of-the-1880s-r/

You can't clearly tell what colour the officer's uniform is, but it is the same shade as the figure stood next to him who does appear to be wearing the same style of uniform as the Gurkhas in the foreground.

Hope that helps.
