15mm Mordheim style buildings project
« on: August 01, 2011, 04:20:50 PM »
Hey,

I've been painting some 15mm figures for SoB&H and 15mm mordheim gaming and now I need some buildings. I bought some Depron style insulation foam sheets 3mm thick and started to draw some plans.

I carved the details straight to the foam which I found a little tricky. I am still learning and trying to find the right tools so if you have any tips how to smooth the sheet and bring the details out better let me know. I am now using hobby knifes backside to mark the details and then I use the round end to level down the needed surfaces to bring the wooden and brick surfaces up.

So this is what I have done for now( only 1 part of the house and it took 3 hours  lol

it can clearly be seen that the surface needs to be worked on still. I have done some joints to the wood etc. and also pushed some of the rocks down to make it more 3D. So do you think I am doing this right and should keep on doing :)?

cheers

-M

You might find you get faster as you go along, at least finish this one before you decide wetter or not its worth it! Something you might try is pressing a rough stone against the stonework to give it more texture, works with green stuff.

Nice job but that's really time consuming.

A rough ball of aluminum foil works well for texturing foam too. Try on a scrap first to see if you like the effect. You can vary the texture by how tightly you roll the foil into a ball.

Yea the consumed time for this is a little too much but I noticed that I made the following walls a lot faster. Only 1 hour needed per wall. That tin foil idea is great! never thought of that. I will give it a try

actually, i also made some stuff in 15mm, i think you just need to get pratice to this: i think that you can make awhole house (not the roof included) in 1 hour, and for the roof i'm making the tiles (for you ;) ) at the moment... just patience and training, that's the best way! :)

that's a great start, keep going! :)
