Rise of the Occulites - Completed Palaudis Tribe sculpts
« on: May 26, 2011, 12:20:31 AM »
G'day guys,

Just wanted to show you the completed set of 5 Palaudis Tribe Occulite sculpts that Bob Olley has done for me.
This is the first of several tribes. My personal favourite is the Chief. These figures are for an upcoming game called Dawn - Rise of the Occulites, but can of course be used in a plethora of other projects or display pieces.

The four tribe members (one of which you have seen before)

And my personal favourite - the Chief

If you want to know more about the setting, the games set in the Rise of the Occulites setting or just want to explore, please check out www.riseoftheocculites.wordpress.com

Cheers,
Ben.

Those are really cool.  I look forward to seeing more from this range.  I'd love to see a sci-fi version of them too.

Don't know what I'd use them for - apart from the upcoming game!  ::) - but I love them!

The chief is brill but my fave has to be the chap advancing with his spear.

I've a nasty feeling there may be a SOBH warband in there. :)

Those are nice! Especially I like them because they are "different" :).  I wish those were in 15mm scale.

They do look very cool. I say that as someone who's not over the years been a big fan of Bob Olley's work, but these are very nice.

...  I wish those were in 15mm scale.

How do know you they aren't? They may be giant furry monocular beings...

Nice looking miniatures for a native vs colonial british fight! They remind of a book "the invasion of Saturn" if I remember well.

Thanks for the lovely comments guys.

Kreighund, I'll be releasing SBH stats for them (or you could choose your own) for people that don't want to try Dawn - Rise of the Occulites out yet, but want to get the figures.

Relic, its funny you should mention that you wished they were 15mm. When I first thought about getting them sculpted I was going to go for 15mm. Some of the reasons I didn't were:
* Its a skirmish based game usually with 5 figures on your side (plus a few Luftles), so felt that to be real character models they needed to be bigger.
* The second reason was pointed out to me by others. At 28mm scale, the Occulites are around 28mm tall and the Luftles are around 15mm tall. If I went for 15mm scale, that would put the Occulites at 15-18mm tall and the Luftles at around 7-8mm tall. I thought that was too small for individual figures in a skirmish game.

That being said, I love them at 28mm and think we made the right choice in scale for Dawn - Rise of the Occulites. The Luftles will work for 15mm stuff easily as they are no taller than that. The Occulites could be giants in 15mm as Red Orc suggested.

Belgian, I haven't read "The Invasion of Saturn" - worth a read?

Cheers,
Ben.

Reading what you said I am also sure that you did the right scale decision. Those figures work also for 15mm as you said and I will get a few to try ! :)

I'm really loving these, I can imagine painting them too, crisp clean and fun miniatures. Always a good sign of 'I WILL BUY YOU!!!!'.

Yup, 'Songs' will be the first port of call, followed by their very own rules set. Looks like you have a great project on your hands there. Good luck with it!

The chief is definitely a winner-love the little guy on the shoulder!

I'm enjoying watching the development on your blog as well. Keep up the great work!
