Chinese Terracotta army, any miniatures?
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:51:16 AM »
Hello all, I just saw the chinese zombies in another thread and then, since our town is going a bit China crazy with Terracotta soldiers on display in museums, I was wondering if anyone ever made miniatures to represent these clay warriors. I figure they would make a great present for my dad. So I was wondering, did anyone ever make miniatures resembling the Terracotta army if Xian? If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's what I mean:

Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

There are these from John Jenkins Design (follow the link to JJD Horror figs on the left):

More zombies, I'm afrai but they are based on the terracotta warriors.

Could you not just get some regular Han chinese from Curteys or Dixon or somewhere and paint them as terracotta, if you wanted them to be more like the actual statues?

Thanks for the links, the terracotta zombies are very nice, though their facial expression is indeed a bit zombie-like. Are the curteys miniatures 28mm? They look a bit large-headed. And I can't find any Han Chinese on the Dixon Miniatures site, do you perhaps have a link? Anyway, thanks very much, I never heard of any of the three so it's a big help :)

Renegade do some
http://renegademiniatures.com/qin.htm

and there are some oldies from Amazon
http://www.amazonminiatures.com/catalogue/index.asp?rName=Chinese%20Qin%20Dynasty

the Curteys are not to everybodies taste but are very nice to paint up with super faces.

if you want them to be more like the statues than wargames figures there were ones at the British Museum that were not too expensive (maybe they have them on sale where you are now the exhibit has moved on).I could not find them on the website now.

Sorry, my mistake, Dixons don't do them, I was thinking of their samurai range.

The Curteys ones are more like 25mm, and do suffer from bobblehead syndrome quite a bit.

There is also this range from Foundry:

http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/collections/CH/white.asp

But beware, lovely as they are, they are hideously expensive!

And Renegade do Chinese that may be suitable as well:

And they have a sale on at the moment.  :)

I hope that is helpful.

Thanks! Those Renegade models look very nice and have a nice price too. the Jenkins miniatures look good too, thanks for posting :)

You've been a tremendous help so far, sio I wonder if any of you know of a miniature that resembles this statue of Emperor Qin:

My idea for now is to have a small diorama with Terracotta soldiers coming to life. It's only an idea though, but I like the idea anyway :)

The closest I have found is the Emperor from the chariot by Curteys. No picture in the site but if you can find the WHAB book Art of War they have used him in some very good photos on the palace steps in there.

If you find one please let me know. China is my bag and I have miniatures representing every period from Shang/Zhou through to WWII and non martial figures such as this and advisors, courtiers etc. are what I desire most.

Also have a look at the fantasy range from Black Hat
http://blackhat.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=121_147

there are some nice pieces yet to be released (these were available from Magister Militum previously)

Not an exact match, Pil, but what about one of the Tales of the Dragon Kings Chinese Wizards from Black Hat:

That was probably the range that inspired all this, after all.  :)
