101st US Airborne (28mm) *UPDATE 16/02/14*
« on: August 06, 2011, 04:23:59 PM »
Hey everybody,

After an overdose of 40K I decided it was time for something new, so I decided to go for a project I was thinking about for a long while now, WWII 101 Airborne. Bought my first Artizan minis from a friend of mine who didn't have a use for them anymore and the first one is finished (now working on the second one):

I found the colourscheme browsing the internet (stumbled on a small intro by Tom Weiss, thanks for sharing the colourscheme man!) and a book about WWII paratroopers borrowed from the above friend (thanks Ketoeloeh!). Airborne badge is a freehand. I'm quite content about it.

Nice work, even though the highlighting is a bit to sharp for my liking.
But nice work anyway.

Very nice paint job. I love the Artizan Airborne figures. Fine painting on the 101st badge. I chickened out with my troops, did not paint them on. That's so they won't get into fights with the 82nd.  lol

I've read that there are decals for the badge and American flags Marine, perhaps an idea.... ? 101 really should get into fights with 82 ;-). Artizan are indeed nice minis, but I'm waiting for a BAM squad and an Offensive miniatures squad as well. I couldn't pick just 1 company  lol
Skratch, they're not as bright when you see the mini in real life. Picture was taken with flash, so white becomes whiter....

Hi Kane,
Thanks for the heads up on the decals. I know that Company B has them. I have some Offensive Minis, none painted, I do like the figures.
Now the question is what uniform to paint them in. Early, tans and browns or late, greens. Guess I may have to paint both. ;D
Oh, I do have early ones painted, up to Normandy.

I have some offensives on order. I think they're the nicest. I'm painting the remainder of my scheme as you see it now. I think it's the early stage, BUT you see those uniforms up until the end of the war as well so...

Reviving the old thread. I've painted about 14 men now, but I had an absolute joy painting this one from Offensive Miniatures. Oh and, thanks to Big Frank for the colour scheme. Comments and feedback and constructive criticism is welcomed. Shiny parts/white dots here and there are caused by the flash on the (matt) varnish. Sorry bout that:
