Rebasing zombies....
« on: August 10, 2011, 07:12:19 PM »
Blast! I just found Fenris.
Havent ordered any bases yet but I am busy painting Studios excellent zeds and have been "pavementing" the bases with Italeri putty (mixed results).
Anyone ever tried rebasing a varnished model onto a Fenris base?
I want perfection here, no more, no less.....

Ian's bases are excellent and very well cast, so just pick up the ones you like best. He's also fast with shipping and such.

As for rebasing them: are they on slottas or integrals? Either way, you should start by popping them off their bases (although you might have to utterly destroy the bases to keep the minis and paint intact) and then removing everything under their feet. Then simply pin them to the new bases.

Working with painted models is a bit risky, especially when drilling or filing. Try to wrap some soft cloth or something around them where you hold them, and work slowly.

Slotta bases. Painting for 25 years and never tried this!
I must give it a go because, as I say, my own efforts are a mixed bag. Thanks for the quick reply!
I can only seem to find an ebay shop for them, is that right?

Did this with a couple of mine.  Works fine, just use the tools on the base and not the mini.  You will probibally have to re-paint or touch up the feet.  I mastered and cast my own bases so I could cast more when I need them.  Hope it works out.

I mostly clip the support under a figure's feet so I can pin it onto the base.
They hold very well, and I reckon should the need to rebase arise, I'd get them loose very quick.

Cut the slotta apart, cut the tags off, use a pinvise, drill the feet, pin and drill the painted base. Easy.

No issue with painted minis, end of the day you'll generally just paint the underside of the feet/boots black or dark grey etc... Be brave! :)

I use Ian's and Jed's bases for my zombies and survivors, they're perfect.

That's correct, but if you have a PayPal account already it's quick and painless to order.
