My attempt at LAF member Mason's Krappefortt water effect
« on: August 16, 2011, 01:08:58 AM »
Hi, everyone. I was so wowed by Mason's water effect method in his Krappefortt thread on page 5 that I had to try it myself. If you hadn't seen his, it's here.

Looks like you pulled it off reasonably well. And a nice board btw.

EXCELLENT EFFECT! The sparkling spots ring true to how water reflects light. For Mordheim the only thing that you might consider adding are various things, some of which were once animate, floating in the canal. Other than that WELL DONE!

Great stuff, Luckyjoe!

I am liking the way you have created the wave effect running down the length of the canal.
Fantastic looking board too.
You also reminded me that I desperately need to add some 'risers' to create that extra level with minimum effort.
Thank you!

Also the risers should not be laid in a straight line, a wave would have some curve in it. Moving water would have more turbulance towards the outside edges as well.

I will have to give this a try now for sure!

Thanks, folks.

@Ninja: Thanks for the tips.

@Mason: Thanks, there are some awesome risers on the Ironhands site if you need some inspiration. http://www.ironhands.com/mord1.htm

@DeafNala: Thanks, I like the idea of adding floaters. Right now I'm picturing shaving down a little wood barrel so it looks partially submerged and maybe putting a rat on it. Though a few floating dead things would also be cool.  :)

@Dijit: Thanks, I've done other water effects before. This was pretty quick and easy and I'm pleased with the results.

Thanks, Luckyjoe. I have seen the City of the Damned on the Ironhands site before. You are correct; there are some great tips on that site for all sorts of types of scenery, the risers and stairways are particularly good.
Well worth anyone who intends building Mordheim scenery taking a look.
