Think Tank (Tachikoma)
« on: August 24, 2011, 01:02:58 PM »
Well I've been wanting to do this project for a while now and finally got started. The idea was to have a Tachikoma/Fuchikoma from Ghost in the Shell, but as I've not been able to find any that pass with 28mm, I've had to build my own. The back/tail end is the third attempt as the first disintegrated when I harden the Fimo clay (I guess it must have a shelf life) and plastic plumbing piping isn't as heat resistant as I thought it ought to be. So this is a totally new design, which I'm going to call a Dijikoma.

Hope you like the start.

Not yet, but open to ideas. I like all the colours (red for Fuchikoma, blue for Tachikoma and Green for the Uchikoma at the end of GITS II), but think I'm leaning more to the reds of the Fuchikoma, but then maybe this should have something totally different.
Having problems finding a suitable shape for the eyes though, trying to sculpt 3 half domes the same size might push my talents a little too much. The local girly hobby shop is even more useless than I thought it was, so no sticky diamond thingies there. Might drill out the sockets and place a ball bearing in though.

Mustard yellow would fit very nicely actually with many of my other bits and pieces, so a good suggestion.

Don't do the black and yellow stripy warning symbols though, been done to death  :)

Are you scratching all of it?

Looks great! Any chance of casting some?

Yeah it's all being scratched, can't really find anything that fits. As regarding casting, I've never tried it and don't have any idea about how to do it, but if when it's finished and some one thinks it's good enough I'm open to the idea - plus it'd be cool to be able to put 3 or 4 of them down on the table.

Good start! I had to look up what it was you were trying to build. But it's instantly recognisable when you see the pictures!

Keep up the good work!

I have seen someone do this in wood, using i think doll parts from the local Micheal's.
Wonder if i can find some pics for people's perusal. :-)

That'd be Westfalia Chris:

A very good model and part of the inspiration.

Well done a deal more detailing since the last pictures. The greenstuff around the lenses and the 'hood' on the abdomen needs tiding up a little and I've started work on the legs, though they don't look like much at the moment so they're not pictured.

And from the front, the gatling gun isn't a permanent fixture at the moment but can be slid out to put the mortar attachment in.

And a picture of a Tachikoma if you don't happen to know what it is.

Not the abdomen is a very different style, more like the earlier Fuchikomas.

Time for a few new update pics. Things still to work on: the feet (having real problems getting these to look anything like decent); a few fine details eg lights on the rear of the abdomen and the line shooters on the sides of it. As it's my first large scale none-plastic box scratch build i'm really pretty pleased with it so far.
In the pictures everything is bluetacked together, so doesn't quite fit as nicely as it otherwise would.
