OK, I've finally stopped lurking.  I ma more a collector than a wargamer, though I do use the miniaturesfor D&D games.

Ah, D&D... that's how this started for many of us, getting some minis for D&D games (I can stop any time I want, right?) and before you know it you think, "well, I've got 80-odd orcs now, can't I do something a bit bigger?" and thus table-top battle-games were created...
