Samurai docu on Channel 4
« on: September 18, 2011, 09:20:03 PM »
Talking about the Kamakura episode in the Genko war. Interesting enough but at least they could have got the bloody armour correct  ::)

Using Sengoku period armour and having Dr Steven Turnbull mispronouncing some of the names isn't really endearing me to it  :?

Ah well, at least the period is getting some exposure  :)

That's shocking - Turnbull actually mispronounced the names? Is he more a reader of Japanese than a speaker?

Oh, he can speak it alright. He just seems to be doing it the lazy way (the Japanese have no 'R' or 'L' but mix the two) and you'd think for the amount of time he's been out there he'd get it right.

cheers

Turnbull contradicts himself on a regular basis.  Ok, modern research can change opinions but I can only presume he allows older manuscripts to be published without editing as publications dates do not always defend the errors.
