Gladiator arena WIP 2 of 2 (fighting pit completed)
« on: October 21, 2011, 04:02:24 PM »
Almost done with the "fighting pit" level, waiting for the plaster to dry so that I can start painting it.

More pictures of the process of building this arena can be seen on my blog: http://anatolisgameroom.blogspot.com/2011/10/gladiator-arena-wip.html

Thanks, I've been having Gladiator fighting on my mind for a long time. Just needed to wait for a moment where I had all the materials needed to actually build the arena.

As always it is fun to build new stuff from scratch. Don't have any drawings or pictures for reference, just going by my "inner mental image" of how it will look once finished. But I made sure to take pictures of the process  :)

Thanks, checked your thread just now , fantastic painting!

Yes I will do a review of the WH "Gladiator" rules as well. As soon as I have some models to use for the review, hopefully they'll arrive next week  :) But the Gladiator book at £10 at the current SALE I think you could take a plunge  :D

I also got myself a couple of Warlord Games Roman legionnaires and the metal commander sold in single pack, this evening I also found a source of bases that I think will suit this game well. Not really bases but flat double sided 25mm round markers that can be split in half. Will show everything once I have it in my hands  :)

The fighting pit painted up and completed. Now I’m just waiting for some miniatures to give the Gladiator rules a try so that I can review the book. I will also start planning for how to build the second level with the VIP compartment and the audience boxes.

I recently picked up a sale copy (haven't played yet as I have no sutiable models) but for a tenner its worth it for the miniatures pictures and background fluff!

@Colonel Tubby, exactly - even if one ends up not liking the rules, all the background, gladiator profiles etc are still there to be used  :)
