The Captain Blood & Malamute pirate game - BLAM 2011 (35 images)
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:20:06 AM »
As seen at BLAM 2011:

The vast (nay, EPIC) joint-production that is Captain Blood's and Malamute's pirate game was a sight to behold.....terrain, minis, ships, scenario and rules all top-notch. Those that were there know this to be true and for those that weren’t…… there are photos.

The scenario:

“Port St. Anthony in The Barbadoes.  A thriving trading post under Governor-General Sir Digby Trelawney, his stout redcoats, and a Royal Navy landing party left behind by HMS Squirrel.  The Squirrel is shortly to return escorting a merchantman to collect the export goods of Port St. Anthony – tobacco, rum, and precious spices.  HMS Squirrel herself will take aboard the Governor-General’s chest of gold: the annual taxes collected from the colony.  The goods to be collected are currently distributed around the town ready to be moved down to the wharves….. But certain Gentlemen of Fortune have caught wind of these riches, and have other ideas……”

Port St. Anthony sits between a pair of sea cliffs, to the west and to the east:

The wharves are busy with all things commerce: traders, labourers and other purveyors of goods and services:

The first pirate ship docks against the middle jetty (played by “Dr. The Viking”), prior to which Captain Blood had been heard to remark to the effect that “it’s not always good to be first ashore…”:

The redcoats (played by Vikotnik) rush to the wharves, moving to take up a defensive position behind the parapet on the roof of the centre building:

Not appreciating the implications, the civilians carry on with their business:

The port’s cannon crew (also played by Vikotnik) stand-to on the roof of the tallest building, which is located towards the centre of town:

Dr. The Viking’s  pirates swarm down the middle jetty:

While adjacent to the east jetty, a landing party from the second pirate ship (played by Dewbakuk) is rowing itself ashore:

Very pretty.  And I'll be back to look it over again - to see what I can steal for my developing monstrous pirate game!   lol

I really anjoyed playing on such an elaborately designed table, even though my redcoats did not get the opportunity to change their orders (stand fast and fire) during the whole game.
 lol

Thanks for setting this one up, it was very entertainingly moderated as well. Great game!

top notch... who makes the women in the governors party?

They are a mix of Brigade Games swashbuckling girls and F&IW / ECW civilians from Redoubt...
Here they are in close-up...

Thanks Steve, for the excellent photos and battle report. We appear to have traded photography and reporting roles on each others' games!  :D

Thanks to all who played. It was true piratical mayhem, but the baddies won in the end, that's the main thing!  ;)

If anyone's interested, I can attach pdfs of the scenario and player sheets so you can recreate the whole thing on your own tables  :)
