Got Hellboy fig-Now what?
« on: December 03, 2007, 04:00:05 PM »
I recently purchased the Hasslefree "Harby" figure and am in the process of painting him up.  BEE-OOO-TI-FUL model and excellent service from Brandon at Rattlehead here in the states.

I am now in search of suitable figures for Liz Sherman and Abe Sapiens.  I would prefer metal.  A friend has the Hellboy Clix, and they won't do. Somewhere I have the Miss Scarlett figure from the game "Clue" and she looks right, but she is nearly as tall as the Hellboy fig

I have perused my usual suspects (mostly Copplestone's Future Wars Line and (gulp) Foundry's Street Violence line) for a suitable Liz, but nothing strikes me as being "right".  I would prefer an unarmed figure with an open hand dressed in modern clothes.

As far as Abe goes, can anyone suggest a "fishman with a pistol" figure?

Thanks

I havebeen considering one of the Hassle free girls, like Jess, Eve or Maria.

The important thing to me is the cigarette (which can be added) and that she looks apropriately grungy.

About Abe: I have no idea what so ever.

EDIT: Does the fellow to the left look aquatic enough for you?

I was thinking about something similar the other day. I have the Hellboy from Graven Images (via Monolith), and I need something to go with it.

I nearly bought the box of Clix on saturday when I saw them in my local comics emporium, but on reflection ("They're a bit small. And bendy lookin'. And twenty five quid! Bums to that!") I decided not to.

I had also considered a Hasslefree for Liz, but Abe is gonna be really difficult.

I do have it on good authority though, that Monolith will be releasing twelve Hellboy characters in the new year, or before the new film comes out, anyway. I don't know what they will be, and suspect they may be closer to 40mm, but it might be worth waiting for.  :?:

Hammershield-I agree about the comment on Monolith.  40mm is not an option for me.

Your comment about the cigarette got me thinking about Artizan as I have recently painted some of their figs that have exactly that.  I was looking in their pulp section, and the "Michelle" figure caught my eye. There is something about the pose and the beret that seem "right".  As I already have that model, I think I could live with the Sten gun.

Regarding the fishmen you suggested, yes they are fishy enough, but I can not ever imagine the voice of David Hyde-Pierce coming coming out of either one of them

JollyBob-you nailed it perfectly on the clix fig "Bendy" and "small"

Who is David Hyde-Pierce and can't he say *bribbit*?

RAFM do Deep Old Ones which could be used:

They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

I suspect a conversion involving a "gill man" will be necesary.  Too bad reaper didn't do a creature from the black lagoon.

Niles Crane on Frasier*. He can probably say *bribbit* in a very educated accent.

*: Also voiced Abe in the movie

You may find a suitable Liz model in the GZG range, they look a bit 80s compared to the superb Hasslefree models but there is a nice modern civilian selection.

The website is a little thin on pictures so you may want to download the catalogue from the second link.

One of the reasons we were able to negotiate a license was that we weren't doing the models in a scale that would compete with the SJG or Clicks models.

I know 40mm is not to to everyones taste - but in the terms of our contract that's what we are allowed to do.

We're just waiting for clearance on the Baba Yaga model........

I understand, Steve. Your stuff is great but to me a new scale is like a new hobby and that's not something I can see myself doing. Luckily a few things (like the Rampagers) are fairly scale neutral but a 40mm Hellboy will be streching things.

Actually, I'm quite happy using the 40mm Hellboy with my 28mm stuff. I mean, how big is he anyway? Eight feet tall?

Next to the others, he looks kind of large ogre-sized, certainly not too big to use.

The others in the range may be more problematic, but I'll probably get them anyway. Just for lookin' at.

I thought it was David Hyde Pierce, too. It certainly sounds like him. But if you check the cast list he ain't on it. Abe was played by someone called Doug Jones.

Coincidentally, for a picture of David Hyde Pierce check my latest blog entry:

See if you can tell which one is him. (At the bottom of the first entry on the main page.)

Yeah, it was Doug Jones in the suit (also played the Silver Surfer in FF2 and two of the monsters in Pan's Labyrinth ) but David Hyhde Pierce deffo did the voice. See imdb (scroll down a bit)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0167190/fullcredits#cast

Interestingly, Jones provided the voice of Abe for both Hellboy animated movies. And Hyde Pierce played a character in The Amazing Screw On Head animation by Mike Mignola.

Funny how things work out.  :)

And yes, since you ask, I am a colossal nerd.

Edited once for anal retention of facts.
