I have read about but never tried foam texturing. What's its durability like? You know, wear and tear on the gaming board?

It depends on the piece really. If you have lots of fiddly bits that were glued on, they tend to get knocked off without too much effort. For example, the merlons on my Castle Guinness have to be re-glued on a semi-regular basis:



However, the rest of the castle is very durable. It is really too light to damage itself all that easily. Also, if you have the foresight of mind to actually cut the merlons rught out of the original piece of foam then they are very sturdy. For example, on my Umbar model the merlons were actually cut from and are part of the piece that makes up the wall. Actually, Umbar is entirely foam. It has been dropped more than a few times and I have yet to have to repair it... Not the castle anyway, those damn little signs keep getting knocked off though...



For the stuff that is on the Pony though (the stones on the front there as well as the fire place and chimney) they will never be damaged. At least, not any worse than they would be if they were made of anything else.

Hope that helps. I may do a couple of articles on working with materials like foam core and insulation foam... But we'll see

Neldoreth, All you terrain looks very nice. I liked seeing the progress photos of the Prancing Pony on your website.

By the way do you coat your foam terrain pieces with any glue or such to protect them before painting? I have found that a thinned down coat of pva glue helps to resist damage to foam terrain like this.
