6mm ACW, talk to me ..
« on: December 04, 2011, 09:24:09 AM »
I'm afraid that I abandoned my ACW 28mm project in favour of Naps.

However, a friend of mine is doing ACW in 6mm (Adler Miniatures) and i have to say it looks rather good.

Wondered what you guys thought about 6mm in general ...

The 6mm minis are really nice, but the bases are awful! There must be some solution, but unless you cut off all the slottabases from the minis, and you use something REALLY thin for the unit base, you will have something very wrong, IMHO...

got into 6mm last year with a Baccus ACW starter set , fantastic both armies (great figures) resin buildings (nice) painting guide (useful) flags (good ) and Rules (did not like them reading through and put them aside but have since played them and they are very good)

If you look at the Baccus 6mm web site there are some fantastic 6mm dioramas on show .

It's a great scale for big battles - I use it a lot and it fits my megalomaniac needs.

Also good for new projects as the whole lot of figs, scenery etc will fit in one small box, plus your average dining table becomes fileds and fileds of battle rather than the single street it would be in 28mm.

I have a long standing project painting 6mm Baccus figures:

HOWEVER, I just can't seem to get a long with the Polemos rules and it's sort of broken my enthusiasm. I could switch to Fire and Fury but that would mean re basing and I like the "regimental" bases.

What rules/basing do you all use for 6mm ACW?

I thought about 6mm ACW (for F&F) for a good, long time, then opted for 10mm from Old Glory. I mount mine two strips (10 men) to a base for a more massed look.

6mm will probably give way to 2mm in no time at all!  Soon entire armies will battle on a piece of paper terrain, just flip through the loose leaf binder and fight all the battles that the chose army participated in!  ...........  or something like that ;)

In the 90's i collected a few 6mm armies as i wanted to do larger Battles/Battalions,that would not be possible in 25mm or 15mm without losing the room to manouver. Large Battalions (around 100 figs) just look incredible on the table and you start to feel like it is a real battle and not just a skirmish.
At the time there were no 10mm figs on the market. If i did it all again i would do it in 10mm and not 6mm.You can still do large units but the 10mm figs have much more detail and just look better.
