Steampunk skirmish rules
« on: December 26, 2011, 02:37:39 PM »
Wolsung beta rules are available for download but are there any other rules for skirmish games in the steampunk era ?

No more than 10 miniatures per side with steampunk gear.

I read the VSF rules thread and found nothing else apart Gaslight as suitable rules.

Any LOTOW conversion rules may be ?

Thanks
I wish I were an octopus to paint more miniatures...Cthulhu must be a great painter

LotOW might work - I'll have to dig out my copy and see.  It would be nice to use the LAM figures I have (when they are painted of course).

Sorry, a bit confused here. Are you using Steampunk and Victorian Science Fiction as the same thing? I'm getting used to it, but there are others who'd give you a fight there. ;->=

G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.  is designed for ten per unit, outside of special characters, not per side. One unit, plus characters, usually gives me plenty to do, especially when I'm trying to maintain the cinematic persona. But I'm often thrust into playing with two or three.

Mind you, you can use smaller units, but there's a bit of fudging involved. Nothing that should dissuade you.

I've seen plenty of other rules mentioned, but can't give an example. Pathetic, no?

Now, if you mean Steampunk as different from VSF, I think of that as more in the realm of role-playing.

Sorry Doug but for me VSF and Steampunk are the same (I am not a specialist).

My wish is only to play skirmish games in 28mm with miniatures such as the Wolsung ones sold by Micro Art Studio....this part is more Steampunk may be than VSF....

For large battles I should play with 15mm miniatures (not 28mm) and use Fubar VSF rules.

Not quite sure anymore, but wasn't there word that a Steampunk-variant was planned for "In the Emperors Name"?
Could fit the bill then

There is still an ITEN variant for VSF planned, but it's been put on the backburner for now because of the success of ITEN and tweaking it - straight from the horse's mouth, that is!

Seems like every other post of mine these days is one of these, but you could always try savage worlds showdown here: http://www.peginc.com/Downloads/Showdown/Showdown.pdf Its free, its fast its fun.

Something that might not seem obvious also is that their magic system can very easily be used to represent weird science, their RPG makes use of this tough that does use a slightly more complex malfunction system.

Just to clarify what the Beast said; while a typical GASLIGHT game involves units consiting of ten figures, this is not necessarily manditory.  I have both run and played in GASLIGHT games consisting of just Main Characters figures with only about 10 figures per side.  The rules also have RPG modifications which allow you to bing the figure count down, and the detail level up.
