Hi guys!

Some weeks ago i started thinking about a full nef campaign with a friend, and we decided to make some modular hulls and facilities for making a whole fleet quite customizable.
Even if i'm usually into manual work, this time i wanted to try some 3d modelling.

At the moment the model is still in my hard disk, but soon i'll upload on shapeways for a first master. After that, the other pieces will be resin casted.

Looks good! I've played around with Sketchup and Shapeways and you can definitely get some good results from it.

really? do you have any picture of what you made? because i'm not very shure about the different qualities! any feedback?

Don't have any photos I'm afraid. I used the White, Strong and Flexible I think it's called and that's not a very good material as it's not very smooth but I've heard from friends that the Ultra Detail works pretty well. But if you want to use them for making molds you might want to look at places that specifically prints for that use. It's more expensive but you get a very smooth finish. Dealing with Shapeways was very easy, their support worked very well.

Well, i've contacted also moddler. They say that they use the same machines, but set to the higher quality. I guess that it couldn't be THAT better. And the shipping is 3 times more, so since it is just for hobby, i'll go with the shapeways higher as possible. Not the best way, but i've to find a compromise between the economical part and the aesthetic one.

1:1200. I've to say that they look much smaller than the brigade models ones. But i paid attenction to the proportions, and so i think that the BM ones are a bit too big, and the 1,5mm men will find them ways to small to fit into!

I like the concept but I'd get rid of the rivets, they look silly at this sort of scale (Dystopian Wars being the prime offender).

I've always liked the 'tall' type of neff but as I was informed by a mate of mine who played Space 1889 years ago, they would get shot easier

Don't let this stop you though, as I said, I like the idea and general look

Maybe make the bridge look a little less WWII

Well, it depens by various factors: first of all the "levitation" source: if it is a sort of magic metal, you will need a solid inverse-pyramidal structure inside the ship: a flat one is too weak, and at the first shot it will break in 2!
Secondly, it depends where the shots come from. in a multi-heights war, when you have a flat ship you'll become a easy target for a bomber above you, or a ground cannon below you!
Thirdly, a flat ship is too much bounded to the wind streams! Aerodynamic is needed more for the athmospheric issues than for the "speed" ones!

But, as you said, i love the tall ships. they look cool!

I'll keep the rivets, i wanna see the effect when drybrushed. I know that they are ways too big, but i want to try the look. We are planning to order one ship each to see the quality and some secondary aspectr (like the rivets!

), will show you some photos, when the order will be completed!

Thanks ray! Actually, i wasn't shure about the shape of the chimneys, so i'll folloy your advice!
For the hull turrets: actually, the central ones are better looking, but they are meant for defence on the front side, where theree are less turrets!

anyway, for the look: the game is meant to be setted in 1909, so it is more great war looking than the usual aeronefs!
