what? The gun barrels will be brass rods, since those are much much thinner and straight than resin. The overall resistance will improve a lot, too.

That's quite odd, i know, but the final look will be much much better!

made my order on Shapeways. Will arrive in the second half of march (damn Atlantic Ocean... always around).

good point: the people there are really kind, even though it is a huge company they answer fast and tell everything you need to know

bad point: the software checks if the model is printable some days after you made the order, and if one of the pieces is rejected you have to make a new order. it means delays, thus time wasted.


I'll write a review about the quality once arrived. :) I'm hopefull, at the moment.

Those would look good as bases. Have you considered modeling a gear base in 3D? Given the cost of those gears and the need to add an upright it may be cost effective to buy the bases along with the ships.

well, 3d cogs have a problem: those are not in copper! And copper or brass are such great materials!

Actually, i was thinking to mould and resin casting them, but the copper one is very much resistant. And they cost 1 dollar each, that's not that much! =) =)

Not copper, but a bit of paint will "fix" that, I would recommend the gears from corrective tape. Quite cheap and you can fix somebody else's errors as a bonus.

but the copper one are also very thin, that's so cool! I wil make some experiments... i love copper, that's why i'm saying!
Painting is fine, but the resin so thin is quite fragile! :) And casting and cleaning them is quite annoying! =)

note that the rivets are visible! not evident like in the Dystopian ships, but very very nice" I'm really pleased by all this! :)
