Best bases for 15mm figures?
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:28:55 AM »
Hi, I'm doing up some 15mm figures for a future setting campaign and I've been using GW bike bases which I'm not overly happy with.  So I'm wondering what bases would people recommend for using with 15mm figures and how many figures should be on a base, I've currently got about five or six sharing the same base.

P.S.  This isn't strictly my first post, I just re-registered myself under a new name (sort of, I was Frontal Assault) as it was easier than trying to remember my old password.

well, the number of people on a base depends on what kind of game you're planning to play. For a skirmish one the single bases should be nice, but for a larger game you will need 4 or six pieces. If you want to play Impetus you might like to put more than 15 minis per base! =)

The only thing i can say about the base shape is to make it thin! When you have such a small miniatures, the high base is quite a big step, and separates the minis from the ground too much. Furthermore, any kind of scenery you're having will look to small, since the figures are "high-heeled" by the base!

Well, I put my 15mm minis on washers that are used wiht 8mm bolts. The good thing is you can then use them individually or make magnetic bases to put multiples of them on. which you can still tart up, just leave a space for the washer to touch the magnetic strip where you want it to.

I use 20mm diameter and 0,8mm thick plywood bases from Litko. For some figs I've used 20mm diameter washers. But the thinner the better, at least for me.

I use FoW Bases for everything in 15mm. Kinda pricy though.

If you want rounded bases, I'd definitly suggest metal washers. You can find them in multiple diameters to fit your needs. And the extra weight provided is also a good thing to easily manipulate the figures.

If fact, now I use metal washers for ALL my figures, from 15mm to 28mm.
