Warehouse
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:59:01 AM »
Finished painting my scratchbuild (foamcore) warehouse yesterday and posted a few pictures on my blog:

Just a small teaser:

Enjoy,

Very nice 14th. Those shields for lamps are inspired. And the textured paint for the render works superbly. All set off by your great paint job. Superb!!!  :-*

Well done.
The building could be used in a number of different periods.

That place would leak like a sieve in heavy rain. Guttering and stormwater down-pipes please, particularly for the roof pitch on the left  :D :D

Well done, 14B.

THX again guys!

Well done, 14B.

Any good ideas where to get the materials from? I Have been thinking about that for my buildings a lot, but never came up with a solution especially for the gutters.

Cheers,

Burkhard

Gutters can be straws cut in half (available from many thrifty/craft stores) with downpipes from bamboo skewers perhaps?

The bamboo skewers are a good idea!

Thought about the straws myself, but I can not get paint to stick on the full ones and I think it would chip off half ones which will be less robust.

Hmm, D cross section dowel might be useful then.  The top could have scattered dried herbs at the ends to represent dropped leaves.  You could also have a few dried leaves scattered over the roof and in the central gully to give the building a 'lived in' look.

Skewers, chopsticks or fine dowelling rod (which is cheap considering how little you need).

Fencing wire or cyclone mesh grade are also a very simple solution together with a little modelling putty work for the inlets.

The big ticket item is the actual "U" gutter. You can do that with wine bottle lead (if you can find any these days) or any reasonably thick tin-foil. Form it with a chopstick by just folding it.

But it's still a nice piece.
