The Smith Gun used by the Home Guard
« on: December 21, 2007, 01:31:46 PM »
I've watched an episode of Dad's Army where the Guard use a Smith gun - a smooth bore gun towed on wheels which become the top and bottom of a small emplacement. You can see the gun here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Gun and again at the link at the bottom of the Wiki page.
Does anyone know where I could see some clearer pics or diagrams of it?
Thanks.

Oh man, that thing is a hoot.

I want a real one! I'd bomb the hell out of the neighbor's annoying poodles with a bunch of tennis balls.

Smith guns are really cool. If you go to the National Army Museum in London there is a great one [which is the one in the picture] (though the Burma section is still the best part of the museum- genuinely scary).
