Need Painting Help - WWI Russians
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:04:21 AM »
I have searched through the sticky threads but I really did not see what I was looking for.  Being partially color-blind I need some specific suggestions (think paint by numbers) on uniform colors (Vallejo would be nice).  Is there anyone who can make some recommendations for WWI Russians?

Thanks,

Chris Stoesen

I forgot to C&P my response here as well as by PM. I can't see how to access my sent messages. So feel free to put it here for anyone that wants it  ;)

Thanks.  Here was the PM you sent me:

"Sure Chris, no great secret. I use GW paints over a black undercoat:

Base first with Bestial Brown heavily drybrushed over filler, add some white and drybrush again, more white, then almost pure white for a very light brush over the top.
Catachan Green as a base for the uniform, Scorched Earth for the leggings and equipment.
Trousers get highlghted with Camo (or sometimes Gretchin Green)/Catachan 50/50, then just Camo.
Leggings are also highlighed in Camo, but I sometimes add in some Snakebite to get a different tone.
The tunic is then painted with a mix Snakebite/Camo/Darksun Yellow (not sure of the exact  mix as it is meant to be different each time to give variety), highlighted by adding some white to that.
Flesh is Dark Flesh, Dwarf Flesh and then Bronze Flesh.
Brown equipment/rifle gets highlighted in Bestial Brown and Black left as is.
Finally any details are picked out - shoulder straps, roundel on the hat, some Boltgun on the metal of the rifle etc.
Glue on some static grass and varnish to taste.

If you find a resource for WW1 Imperial Flags (especially Rifle Regiments), please let me know  Cheesy

Hope that helps,

Stephen"

I can't see how to access my sent messages.

They are in the Outbox, which you get to from the link over on the left once you are in "My Messages."

However, presumably your outgoing messages are only saved if you ticked the checkbox that says "Save a copy in my outbox" when you sent the message.

If I were you I would go for some of the ready made triads look at the foundry WW2 sets the rusian ones should be fine or contact Black Hat, he posts on here as Black Hat & try some of the CDA triads that Steve Dean worked out for them.
It should make life much simpler than mixing paints if you have a slight colour blindness.
