20mm cold war soviet vehicle kits - update 21/02
« on: January 23, 2012, 10:21:47 PM »
finshed these 2 weeks ago (but didn't take any pictures of the actual finished models and they're already donated to a friend)
so here's some of when they were painted and with some Mig pigments scattered but not yet turned into a wash:
ICM's Ural 4320

Trumpeter's BTR-80

The BTR-80 was a joy to put together. only minus was the decals. only 1 possibilty.

The Truck was a disaster on wheels. bad fitting of pieces. (lots of filing, sanding and drilling); no clear indications of where several pieces needed to go except from some drawings stating this or that part needed to go XX milimetres from this or that point...
the manual consisted of 3 exploded views and was very confusing (and no, I'm not a noob at this)
Another problem was the quality of the plastic (brittle). I had several pieces broken while cutting from the sprue. not just small rods, even sturdier pieces.

Kits like this would make me advise one to never buy ICM, but in all honesty, there was already another ICM kit on its way (a BTR-60 PB) and having started on that one, I must say, it's a different story : clear manual, "rather" good fitting pieces (had to work on the rims & tyres) and a detailed interior (even though unnecessary for gaming purposes)

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons,
for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

BTR-60PB
1/72 kit by ICM.
tyres needed a bit of sanding as the rims where a tad too large, otherwise very nice fit.
