My first steps into the Realms of Horror. (Cossacks added)
« on: February 05, 2012, 12:27:15 PM »
Hi folks. I bought myself a very cheap box full of vampires and other gothic horror stuff. SO I started painting.

Here is a pic of my first couple of chaps. Soon to be followed by some cossack underlings.

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Good work. I especially like the skin tone. How did you achieve? Also there seems to be a glossy aspect to your miiniatures clothing... Is that a varnish?

Cheers

Very menacing. I like it. Do you have a terrain board to match those bases?

Very nice. I like the colors you chose and the bases look great.
Make sure to share your Cossaks when they are done!
I've own this pack as well, but mine were covered in mold lines.  :(

The skin tone was done with a pale flesh tone and a layer of blue wash
And the gloss... That's from a matt spray varnish. Not happy about that :-X

Well I'm working on a London Waterfront. It's been going slow at the moment but it's slowly getting there.

Not that I'm an expert, but what was the spray? My friends here in the USA swear by Testors Dullcote.

Off the top of my head: I don't remember. It's some acrylic stuff I got from the local art supplier. I do have a can of Army Painter dull coat but it's half used and will no longer spray (I've even changed spray nozzles and it still won't work).

I've always used Krylon Matte Finish #1311. It's never given me any problems and its affordable.

Second this, it works like a champ!
I am looking for the following Deadlands minis:  Shotgun Thug, Lost Soul, Cleaners, Railroad Workers & Feral Dead. If you have any of these minis, or if you are one, please send me a PM.

And now the nefarious nosferatu have some evil minions to carry out they orders.

These are from West Wind (I think) and I also have the mounted versions of each which I'll ge to painting soon (I just hate painting horses). I'll probably just paint one on horse back to act as leader/captain.

Lovely work. I don't think they're Westwind though.

Jet: Yeah I checked them. They are West Wind - Vampyre Wars figures.
They might be old stock. I bought them as a bulk deal from a company going out of business via an online auction site. I got something like 17 multi figure blisters for about $35.

But definately West Wind. ;)

Nice looking paint jobs on those Cossacks. I like the miniatures as well.
I went with the cossacks with muskets myself to give Vampire warbands some firepower!

Thank for posting Melnibonean.
