These have been sitting around half finished for a while, so I finally got down to doing the last couple of elements. I still need to find a banner for the command stand and paint some shield designs (or buy some transfers), but I think they look good enough to show off.

The plan is to use them for Dan Mersey's Dux Bellorum when it comes out, but until then I shall probably play DBA with them (once I sort out a matched army for them to play against!)

What do you think?

That is a very nice looking bunch of Picts, well done!

They look good as barbarians (I particularly like the light coloured - pine? - shields), but, if they are to be Picts, perhaps you should add in some body paint when you do the shield designs? It's how they got their name, after all.

Clean paint and nice contrast! I really like them. As said the should be more "painted", to be real Picts, but, the same, they make really good generic barbarians of Albion.

Some Black Tree Design (the only people to make axe armed warriors, which are all over the symbol stones) and Old Glory (most of the archers, a really under looked range of models) as well.

The term Pict appears to have been used several centuries before the period I'm planning to use these figures in, so I'm not sure actually how tattooed your average 5th century Pict would have been, I certainly won't argue that there weren't any tatooed Picts roaming around, but I'm choosing to avoid it (much like my decision to avoid the tenuous "Pictish Crossbow").

Very nice paintin there; posts like these make me want to make extra effort to finish off my warband.

Lots of Pict fans in this neck of the woods so can appreciate the look you've gone for. I must admit that I've painted some warpaint and tattoos on mine more for some contrast rather than historical accuracy. Unfortunately the Picts have had a bum deal with regards to historical writing in the past. Thankfully there appears to be a great deal more interest in the subject these days.

Thanks again, I've just started another couple of bases of warriors thanks to the encouragement from here and I've nearly finished a Late Roman command base and some casualties.

So watch this space!
