Battle for Skull Pass
« on: January 09, 2008, 01:32:50 PM »
I know that gw doesn't seem to be all that popular around here, but the Battle for Skull Pass box set looks like a cheap way to get a lot of fantasy miniatures.

On top of that, it looks to have enough models and scenarios for two players to  have a few games of the old warhammer.

Any idea how many points of goblins and dwarves are in that box?

Thanks!

The wrecked ship out of the Battle for Maccragge box is also pretty spiffy. Cannibalizing GW products is perfectly acceptable.

I think it's around 500 points a side although the intro guide talks you though scenarios designed to teach as you go.  It's only on the later scenarios that you use all the models.  Still - a cheap way to start playing the game so not too bad really, espcially if you don't buy it direct from GW themselves

The nephew has this set, the little grovelling GW minion that he is. I'll ask him if you like. Won't see him till the weekend, though.

I really like the set.
Think there is about 500pts per side? not entirely sure tho... :?

the minis are cool altho not as good quality as the multipart stuff, these are only one piece.

all in all a good buy i think, everything to get you started and the mini rulebook is very nice - saves you hulking around the huge hardback version!

I'm not very enthusiastic on the Evil Empire marketing and sales policy, but I think that their starter boxes are a really good value for money (specially this Skull Pass thingy)

However, they are like crack... Once you start, there is no turning back (unless, of course, you listen to the voice of Rich and enter the realms of Pulpdom)

Acording to GW there are 2x20 goblin spears, 1x20 goblin bows, 1x10 goblin spider riders, a goblin chief, a goblin shaman and a troll.
On the dwarf side: 1x12 warriors, 1x10 thunderers, 1x8 miners, a cannon, a thane and a giant slayer. And there is some scenery and a rule book too.

Hope this helps

I might get it for myself, actually but right now I am swamped with work and projects in Pulp, WWI, Darkest Africa and AWI, plus the idea of getting myself a medieval village in miniature (the real one cost too much for me).

The only thing I really don't like about GW are their pushy shop assistants, young whippersnappers with $$ in their eyes, and no respect for  chronically petulant old geezers such as myself......

I have got the box, but never calculated the points. For GW prices, quite economical, with some interesting bits. The points value should work out, as pointed out above, to around 500 per side. The pony cart and the spiders and stuff make for a bit of variety.

I picked up the spiders minus the riders for 8 dollars off Ebay. And thats all I wanted of that set. The Macragge box I bought however, too much inthere I actually wanted......

I don't have the set but I entered the units mentioned in Army Builder (all units have a full command).

2x20 goblin spears  100 pts each
1x20 goblin bows 80 pts
1x10 goblin spider riders 147 pts
goblin chief  30 pts
goblin shaman 50 pts
troll 40 pts

1x12 warriors  121 pts
1x10 thunderers 165 pts
1x8 miners  113 pts
cannon  90 pts
thane 65 pts
giant slayer 50 pts

total (night) goblin force 547 pts
total dwarf force  604 pts

Hope this helps,
DJ

The last army I bought from them.... Empire I think.  Well it was two started boxes that I purchased with another fella.  He took the orcs and goblins, I took the soldiers.  Must have been the cheapest army of theirs I've ever bought.
