Terrain Suggestions?
« on: January 09, 2008, 07:45:27 PM »
As one of my New Year's resolutions I've decided I will dig out my Foundry and Westwind WW2 figures, paint them and actually use them.

I have commandos, paras, French resistance, Heer and SS.

I'm contemplating scenarios of early war commando raids, French resistance attacks, the behind the lines operations of the Jedburgh teams in France after D-Day, German anti-resistance operations. Stuff like that.

I’d like to assemble a small amount of terrain that will allow me to do all of these things.

So far I’m come up with:

    * 1/48 scale RAF Lysander for night time SOE drop-offs
    * Railway tracks, maybe an embankment and bridge or tunnel - for sabotage ops
    * Secret German equipment like radar, etc for commandos/paras to steal, or resistance to sabotage
    * A French chateau - where the secret equipment or high ranking German officers live - this would the toughest one to do unless anyone knows of such a thing pre-made…

Are there any other obvious candidates? A French village also comes to mind but that could be rather daunting to do an entire village I'm no Dominic - and I'm following his Carentan WIP avidly.

Suggestions appreciated.

Some moutainous terrain perhaps, so you can game the death of La République du Vercors. That gives you an excuse to get some  Falschrimjäger and Gebirgsjäger types too.

I always fancied mountainous terrain, to game the Italian front in the Great War, perhaps. But it seems such a daunting thing to do. Yes, maybe mountains can be made, but how do the figures stand up on them?

You could look at Operation Biting as an inspiration for terrain :

I haven't found any pictures of La Presbytere yet, but the main base is easy to find pictures of.

We used the raid for a club game last year.

Got any photos to share? I'd love to see how it was done.
