A friend and I are  looking at doing some Samurai gaming, we are particularly interested in doing a small skirmish set based on the "47 Ronin". I have looked at Perry, Dixon etc. but no figures specifically for this period, does anyone know of any figures specific for this era, or are Perry/Dixons suitable, anything to watch out for, re anachronistic details.

Tamiya do them but they are in 1/35 Some of the Perry's would work but you would need to do a bit of greenstuffing  :?

The 47ronin were pretty much unarmoured. I'll dig out what photos I've got and post them up later  :)

Ahh, then that is the way I have been going through my figures, so far I have collected;

Perry ronin street clothes
Black hat Ronin
Museum miniatures retainers
Dixon ROnin (see my post for the copplestone sculpts)
There are some in other ranges that cna fit in too, such as clan wars EM4 etcg

Which one?

Here are the pictures of the Tamiya '47ronin' figures. They are multipart and the detailing isn't bad. I got them 6 years ago and they are still in the wrappers  lol

The smaller box has four figures in it and the larger one has eight. Plenty of extras and quite a bit of scope for conversion. Now I've had another look at them it might make quite a nice project to do Edo period police games  :D

Of course, that means making everything again in a different scale... But what the f**k  ;D

cheers

James

I used to have the Tamiya figures when first released (must be at least 30 years ago), as a teenager I was always fascinated by the Samurai and Japan (I remember writing a huge project for school). In the past I have painted a few 28mm figures but never collected a gaming force. I think I have been intimidated by all the stitching on the armor, now that my eyesight is fading I decide to have a go ;D. I have to say Jim that you are partly to blame as for the last two years I have spent alot of my time at SALUTE drooling over your gaming table!
Yesterday I was out bid on the 8 figure set, but today got the 4 figure set for £5.00 :D, they appear quite regularly on ebay.
I am currently reading the Osprey Raid book by Stephen Turnbull, which although apparently very accurate does rather take away some of the romance from the saga.
I still plan to do a small skirmish game in 28mm, looks like I will using the "not Copplestone" Dixon figures along with Perry miniatures and Green stuff. I am really surprised no one has done figures for this in 28mm, I may even consider having a few sculpted money permitting.

They arent bad to be honest a couple of awkward poses but I liked the ashigaru standing and bowing for guards in ninja scenarios :D
